The Beginning of Infinity

Explanations are the currency of progress. Whenever we move from ritual to reasoning, from imitation to understanding, we take a step closer to freedom. And this applies beyond physics — to ethics, politics, art, and even love. The quality of our lives depends on the quality of our explanations. If you believe “people are selfish by nature,” your world will reflect that limitation. But if you believe “people can learn to cooperate through understanding,” your possibilities expand. Deutsch calls the human condition a dialogue between curiosity and caution. When curiosity wins, civilizations flourish. When caution dominates, they stagnate. To live at the beginning of infinity is to never settle for half-explanations or comforting myths. The goal isn’t certainty — it’s depth. Every good explanation leads to another, and that endless chain is what makes the universe knowable.
